April 2022 / First Song Release Retrospective 🤠

Howdy! ^_^

April was a hectic month -- new release, working on getting an animated lyric song video, personal stuff, and things at work.

First Song Release

This month I didn't know what to expect when I released my first song. I had an idea that there would be some support shown and I wasn't sure what that would look like but I grabbed a few screenshots to share!

To say the least, I was super thankful to see these comments -- really gave me that extra excitement shot to spur me forward! ^_^

The Retrospective

One thing I want to do better with moving forward is trying a song-release campaign. This time, I was just happy to release the song so I knew this was going to be a wash since I didn't have a plan in place because I had kept my project under wraps until I knew releasing music was going to happen.

While the support initially was encouraging, outside of messaging a few folks personal links, the buzz around my song release fizzled out relatively quick, and, let me tell you, when you post song links and you aren't even hearing crickets chirp, it's a funny feeling that's not the best and can really play mind games.

Still, I used the analytics and the reminder from my support group that this is my first release and, honestly, the real victory here is now having places on the internet where my music is that I can show folks! So, I'm using this as the stepping stone and continue to document thoughts and pieces of work for historical reference.

Animated Lyric Video

A couple of weeks ago I started working with a video creator to put together an animated lyric video. This happened because I started working on a lyric video myself but realized that what I wanted to do would take wayyyy longer than hiring someone to do it for me that knew what they were doing. I have to say, I'm glad I decided to loop someone in to help me put together a fantastic video!

The experience was super neat as I'd never hired someone to work on something before.

  • The hardest part was finding someone to work with. It took me three conversations before I found someone I was comfortable with.
  • There was also a little bit of a language barrier we had to work around but after a few messages (including a short video to outline something specifically), my video was completed to satisfaction!
  • Check it out below and let me know what you think!

What's next?

Overall, I now get to say I'm a recording artist!

My next feat is to work on building a little buzz around my next single -- so far, the short snippets I've uploaded to my Instagram page have gone over well.

I'm also dealing with some internal things that need addressing. The past month I really threw myself into trying to raise my social media numbers by attempting to build relationships with other artists and potential fans and to say I felt overwhelmed is an understatement.

Social media is a fickle game and I quickly found myself feeling the effects of imposter syndrome wrapping itself around me. I would unfairly find myself in comparison contests, wondering why I wasn't able to do more, and luring myself closer and closer to a drained depressed state.

However, the last few days, I decided to take a break from music.

  • I put the music away for a few days and tried to do other things outside of browsing social media or trying to find ways to lead folks to my profile or streaming channel.

Of course, I found myself chomping at the bit to get back at it but I still felt burnt out. Then I came across an old book I hadn't thought about in years at a local Goodwill and I gladly plopped down $2 for -- The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

  • I want to say this was the first self-help book (or excerpt) I came across in middle school and gave me a jolt of confidence that I had more control over my future than I could imagine.
  • After flipping through some pages, I realized this book could help me get to the root of things that needed to be addressed from a mental standpoint and could serve as a great refresher of what habits I should be focusing on for the better of me.

In closing, I'll be taking a little time to study The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and working on more music ^_^

Thanks for taking a moment to read over my recent update and sending nothing but good vibes your way!

Cheers,
Glennjamin
