Hi all! ^_^
What a month February was and I'm still reeling from all that I've gotten into. For starters, here is what I worked on in the closing weeks of February:
- I signed up for distribution through Distrokid.
- I met with a producer to discuss music goals and received some good advice on perspective -- though this happened just yesterday, I've actually started breaking the shell I've been in to network and talk to others that work on music.
- Added songs to ASCAP.
- Asked a few people for feedback on my song "Don't Know What to Say" (even mixed it one more time for good luck based on that feedback!)
- Even created a TikTok account -- though, I'm not entirely sure how I want to approach that yet 😂
- Moved forward with an accounting team to have guidance moving forward with tax compliance.
- And was approved for a business credit card (legit a whole adventure of document diving in itself).
After all that...Hindsight 20/20 says...
I probably was a little ambitious in laying down the groundwork with the business foundation. In some ways, I wonder if it would have been smarter to have focused on building a portfolio of songs and bringing awareness to my music project/brand.
In the past month and some change, I've had little time to put toward working on music (outside of making time to mix "Don't Know What to Say" once more after receiving feedback from a music peer).
- Believe me when I say (and I'm sure anyone who's been restricted from working on something they really enjoy can relate to), it's been tough to not be frustrated with the lack of focused creative time the past couple of months.
- Still, as my gal echoes to try and keep me sane, I have made tremendous progress in other areas such as laying the foundation for business down now to save me the headaches later.
I've also noticed with how much I've been balancing lately with work, family, and trying to make progress with my music-related work, I've felt a bit like I'm on a rollercoaster with multiple deadlines and meetings...it's been a little overwhelming 😔 but, like a lot of things I've been through in life, this is going to work to my advantage at some point -- and yes, I'm definitely planning on addressing what is likely a burn out in progress on my mental state by getting some time off here soon.
