January 2022 Retrospective

Hi y'all! 🤠

It's been a moment but I wanted to shoot out a blog post to update where I am in the journey.

The past month has been super busy with work, putting together my home office, and taking care of the business aspect of Just Your Frequency. This month felt like a slugfest but the important thing is...I DID IT. 🙌

  • Formed my LLC for Just Your Frequency.
  • Applied for an LLC EIN.
  • And signed up for a PRO -- ASCAP.

Y'all would be surprised at how tedious and mind-numbing trying to get that stuff was. I've been meaning to sign up for a PRO for years but was nervous due to a bunch of things but mostly the unknown. (I had a huge fear of signing something that could potentially limit me in some way moving forward even after doing loads of research to try and not fall into something.)

  • However, if there is one thing I've decided is that it's time to move forward here.
  • I want to move forward with releasing my songs and protecting myself moving forward and some things I'll have to accept that there will be a learning curve of some sort.

Nostalgia got me like 😬😬😬

One of the things I got the feels for this past month were my younger days.

It all started when I was working on the "Bio" part of my site. I was looking for some older photos to include for later posts and got on a nostalgic kick that led me to scour the web for older photos of me from my high school and early college days.

I have an old Myspace page that is still around but due to the updates since I last logged in, the photos have slowly started to no longer be displayed and I have no clue what the password to log in is because I used a fake email to sign up a long, long time ago 😂

Well, included on Myspace was my first band's page that had a 5 song demo, and...a few years ago there was some update on Myspace that made those songs no longer listenable 😞 There may be a demo CD out there somewhere that's recoverable but my only option at this point is hoping my mom's computer still has some readable MP3s of those songs and that computer is old -- like Windows 7 old 😂🤞

Anyhow. this also led me to a kick of trying to find my older Facebook photos. See, I created my first FB profile in my sophomore year of high school. I had it up until I left college after my second year of school and decided to delete it for personal reasons. Fast-forward to these moments where I want to go back and kick my younger self for not keeping it. 😡😡😡😢😢😢

Don't get me wrong -- my high school days and early 20s were not some sort of peak period I hold onto or super happy times but I really wish I could have had the foresight to find ways to save photos or other memories just for the sake of reminding myself how far I've come. ✌👦

Lesson Learned 📖

The above is part of the reason I want to commit to documenting my journey.

I don't want to look back someday whether I'm some star with commercial success and millions of fans or a smaller artist with a handful of folks who dig my stuff and not be able to have any record of how it started -- how can you appreciate where you are without remembering where you came from?

Well, I've come a long way and I fully believe the best is yet to come.

Thanks for taking a moment to read this and sending good vibes to you wherever you may be! 🙌

Cheers 🍻
